Personal Branding is so much more than brand colours and logos and tag lines and visibility. All these things matter and most marketers take them seriously but in a moment of thoughtlessness anyone can damage their personal brand big time!

This is why you need to be always on the alert about what your actions and your statements and even comments on other people’s blogs or social media platforms can do to improve or destroy the brand that you may have been working on for years.

Everyone has a personal brand whether they are aware of it or not. Recently a post I had written on Facebook requesting some feedback on an image I was going to use in my digital marketing business drew my attention as to how someone can bring themselves down in the eyes of the public. Of course this is bound to have an impact on their brand/reputation.

Making smart ass comments or criticisms on other people’s social media platforms may be done in a feeble attempt to impress but is much more likely to disgust anyone who comes across them.

Social media highlights kindness and thoughtfulness but it also draws attention to lack of emotional intelligence or just plain bad manners. It is such a shame that so many gifted people are hesitating to share their wisdom and skills because of these trolls.

I think Facebook should train their algorithm to block these people or send them directly to personal development trainings. I have a mentor who enjoys trolling the trolls by turning their comments into an excuse for singing her own praises and letting her audience know about her skills and qualifications and success without seeming to be braggadocious.

The point is that on social media you never know who is watching you, so set an Intention with all your content whether it is on your own social media platforms or other peoples that it will be of value and help them with their struggles, educate them or entertain them. After all Oprah could be watching on the sidelines!
